Company background

Audioscenic is a specialist immersive audio technology company and a spin‑out from the University of Southampton’s Institute of Sound and Vibration Research. Founded in 2017 by Dr. Marcos Simón and Professor Filippo Fazi, the company develops advanced 3D audio solutions for loudspeaker systems, enabling ‘spatial audio’ experiences to be enjoyed on consumer electronic devices rather than being limited to high‑end headphones or surround sound systems.

Audioscenic’s patented software uses head‑tracking technology and advanced audio signal processing to beam separate sound waves to each ear, creating a highly immersive listening experience while removing the constraints of a traditional fixed “sweet spot”. The technology is designed to be integrated across a range of applications, including soundbars, laptops, monitors and in‑car audio systems.

In 2019, serial entrepreneur David Monteith joined the business as CEO, bringing commercial leadership to complement the company’s academic expertise.

Investment

Alongside Foresight Technology EIS, Foresight Technology VCT first invested £0.4 million into Audioscenic in October 2020, followed by a £1.4 million investment in December 2022 to support the company’s commercial development and market entry.

During this period, Foresight supported Audioscenic with commercial strategy, fundraising and M&A advice, helping the company secure its first design win with Razer. This partnership led to the launch of an immersive gaming soundbar at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January 2023, which went on to receive 12 industry awards.

In late 2022, Audioscenic completed a £5 million funding round, further strengthening its balance sheet and supporting continued product development. In April 2025, Foresight completed a further £1.3 million follow‑on investment, supporting ongoing commercialisation and growth as Audioscenic works towards establishing its technology as an industry standard for spatial audio.

Since Foresight’s initial investment, Audioscenic has grown significantly, expanding from 5 to 37 employees, with representatives now based in the US, China and Taiwan.

Strategy

Audioscenic licenses its core software technology to consumer electronics manufacturers, allowing partners to design immersive 3D audio directly into their products. To date, the technology has been embedded into a gaming soundbar produced by Razer, a 3D monitor by Acer, and a computer monitor by Dell, with discussions ongoing to secure further design wins.

The company continues to expand its presence in the computer and gaming markets, with a particular focus on laptops, while also developing in‑car audio systems that enable the creation of separate audio zones for different vehicle occupants.

Audioscenic is benefitting from rapid growth in the global spatial audio market, with immersive audio content now widely available across music and video streaming services and video conferencing platforms. This increasing availability of spatial audio content is expected to drive further adoption of Audioscenic’s technology across next‑generation consumer electronic devices.
