Bloemteknik supplies adaptive horticultural lighting system to Eden Project greenhouse installation in Cornwall
The project combines Bloem’s TopCrop 4 LED fixtures with GreenFingers™, a real-time adaptive lighting control platform designed to dynamically respond to changing greenhouse conditions.
The installation is part of the Eden Project’s ongoing commitment to exploring innovative approaches to sustainable horticulture and food production. The charity, which welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, is widely recognised as one of the world’s leading destinations for environmental education and plant science.
The greenhouse system has been designed to support the year-round production of high-quality, sustainably grown crops for Eden Project visitors, while demonstrating how modern horticultural technologies can respond more intelligently to real-time environmental variation.
Unlike conventional lighting approaches that rely on fixed schedules or static setpoints, the GreenFingers™ platform continuously monitors greenhouse conditions and automatically adjusts lighting output in response to available natural light and predefined cultivation objectives.
As natural light levels fluctuate throughout the day, the system adapts accordingly reducing supplemental lighting when sunlight is abundant and increasing output when conditions change ensuring consistent crop performance while optimising resource use.
Beyond lighting automation, GreenFingers™ also enables energy-aware cultivation strategies, allowing growers to define operational energy parameters alongside crop targets. The system then works continuously to balance crop requirements with available energy input.
“This type of project reflects where we believe controlled environment agriculture is heading,” said James Fleet, CEO and Co-Founder of Bloemteknik. “Not just more advanced lighting hardware, but systems that can interpret conditions and act on them in real time, in alignment with grower-defined goals.”
The Eden Project installation marks a further step in the application of adaptive lighting control technologies in commercial and educational horticultural environments.
The collaboration was enabled by Foresight Group, a leading regional private equity and real assets investment manager. Foresight backed Bloemteknik in 2025 to help accelerate the launch of GreenFingers and drive international expansion. It has also partnered with the Eden Project since 2022 on a range of initiatives, including collaborating on nature-responsible investment practices and biodiversity enhancements.
Ashley Rogers, Investment Manager at Foresight Group shared: "It's encouraging to see Bloemteknik's lighting solutions and Greenfingers software being deployed in such an iconic environment. This collaboration reflects our belief that long-term value is created through strong partnerships, local knowledge and strategic relationships that create meaningful opportunities and lasting impact."
Bloemteknik is based in Cardiff and specialises in horticultural LED lighting systems and intelligent lighting control solutions for greenhouse and controlled environment agriculture applications.
