Nature Recovery Blueprint

A guide to help land managers, developers, asset managers and operators to implement nature positive management practices.

According to the World Economic Forum, over half of the world's GDP - $44 trillion of economic value generation, is at moderate or severe risk due to nature depletion and a fifth of nature's ecosystems are on the verge of collapse.

In order to mitigate against these risks, the State of Finance for Nature report, identified a total investment in nature of $8.1 trillion is required between now and 2050 to successfully tackle the interlinked climate, biodiversity and land degradation crises.

No one organisation, no one sector can do this alone. There is a requirement for collaboration, to combine skills and ideas to shape what the path to a nature rich future will look like. This is why we have partnered with the Eden Project to produce the blueprint and help create change.

The comparatively undisturbed nature of renewables sites such as solar farms, combined with the long-term nature of either land ownership or leaseholder agreements, alongside the continued presence of on-site operational management, means that all stakeholders within the renewables space are in a unique position to use their sites to benefit biodiversity and aid nature recovery.

Working with the Eden Project and Natural England

To celebrate the launch of our Blueprint in partnership with the Eden Project, Foresight participated in Natural England's pioneering butterfly conservation initiative.

Held at one of Foresight’s solar sites in Cornwall, the event brought together 18 individuals from public and private sectors to create vital habitat corridors for the endangered Marsh Fritillary butterfly.

A greener path: Nature Recovery Blueprint

Conserving the Marsh Fritillary

Butterflies serve as crucial bioindicators, reflecting the health of our environment through their rapid responses to ecological changes. The decline or resurgence of butterfly populations can signal broader shifts in ecosystem health, emphasising the urgency of conservation efforts.

By planting over 600 Devil's-bit-Scabious (Succisa pratensis), the primary food source for the Marsh Fritillary, participants contributed to the establishment of butterfly corridors spanning the UK. These corridors aim to rebuild the metapopulation of this endangered species, enhancing biodiversity and ecosystem resilience.

The collaboration between Foresight, The Eden Project, and Natural England showcases the power of partnership in driving meaningful conservation efforts.

By working together, we can create tangible positive impacts for biodiversity and inspire others to take action.
