Overview

What is FNC II?

FNC II targets the proactive development and enhancement of European natural capital assets - afforestation, forestry, permanent tree crops, peatland restoration, biodiversity net gain, and regenerative agriculture. This pioneering land-based development strategy is built on three key tenets:

  1. Diversified Portfolio Construction – Complementary geographic and market allocations across Europe.
  2. Proactive Value Creation – Capturing value throughout the investment lifecycle.
  3. Helping to deliver a Just Transition – Ensuring fair and equitable land use change.

Its objective is to optimise nature-based services and deliver resilient, risk-adjusted returns through a hands-on, holistic approach.

Why does it matter?

Nature underpins half of global GDP (PwC), yet ecosystems are collapsing and biodiversity has declined by two-thirds since 1970 (WWF). FNC II will help to address this crisis by investing in high-integrity, European natural capital assets - afforestation, biodiversity net gain, and regenerative agriculture. With institutional backing, rigorous project standards, and alignment to frameworks like TNFD and CSRD, FNC II offers investors a rare opportunity to deliver measurable environmental value and access a resilient, fast-growing market.

The market opportunity

$737bn

Annual investment in nature-based solutions (NbS) must quadruple to $737 billion by 2050 to meet global climate, biodiversity, and land restoration targets -up from $200 billion today.

7x

Private finance for nature must grow 7-fold by 2050 to cover 33% of total NbS investment, unlocking scalable opportunities in biodiversity offsets, sustainable supply chains, and regenerative land use.1

$58tn

More than half of the world’s GDP, is moderately or highly dependent on nature and its services.2

Peatland Restoration at Knock Fell

With Scotland’s net-zero target set for 2045, urgent action is needed to restore degraded peatlands - one of the country’s most valuable natural carbon sinks. We have been working on restoring our Knock Fell peatland site in Galloway to stabilise the ecosystem and prevent the release of approximately 23,000 tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere.
